Welcome back perfume lovers. It’s about that time again; time for our bi-weekly exploration of the great perfume houses from around the world. This week we are staying in the United States to take a look at the history behind cosmetics giant, Estee Lauder…
The Estee Lauder Company was founded in 1946 by Joseph and Estee Lauder. The company, which initially focused solely on skin care products, was founded under the belief that every woman can be beautiful. When they first started out, Estee Lauder only sold four skincare products door-to-door at local salons and hotels. Just two years after starting the company, Estee Lauder opened their first department store counter in Saks Fifth Avenue.
During its almost 70 years in business, Estee Lauder has acquired quite the portfolio of cosmetic companies. Clinique, Origins, MAC and Jo Malone are just a small sampling of the 25 companies that currently make up Estee Lauder’s diverse portfolio.
The company’s first fragrance was introduced in 1953; the scent was called Youth Dew and it was a bath oil that doubled as a perfume. After the launch of Youth Dew, the company began producing best-selling fragrance after best-selling fragrance. Some of our personal favorites include Sensuous Perfume by Estee Lauder and Pleasures Cologne by Estee Lauder.
Ms. Lauder may have passed away in 2004, but the company is still alive and well. Not only is the Estee Lauder Company still thriving in 2015, it is also still in the hands of the Lauder family. Today the company is run by Joseph and Estee’s two sons and three grandchildren.

Intense florals, soft woods and skin-like musks make this the perfect sexy sent for a night out on the town.
Velvet Orchid by Tom Ford: This warm and sensual scent is perfect for a night out—or in—with your special someone. Our suggestion: Splash on this seductive scent and then curl up by the fire with your hunny.
Cashmere Mist by Donna Karan: A cashmere sweater is every woman’s favorite Fall accessory, so why not spritz on the fragrant version of that? This perfume’s comforting blend of jasmine, lily of the valet and bergamot blend seamlessly with its undertones of sandalwood, amber and musk. Cashmere Mist makes for the perfect everyday, Fall signature scent.
Euphoria Perfume by Calvin Klein: Light and dark blend perfectly in this mysterious scent. Your olfactory senses will love the wafts of pomegranate, persimmon, lotus blossom and black orchid. The dark finishes of violet, cream, liquid amber and mahogany make this the perfect date night fragrance.
Here we go again perfume lovers. For the 14th installment of our bi-weekly exploration of great perfume houses from around the world, we’re taking a trip back to the United States to look at how Calvin Klein became one of the biggest names in fashion…
Calvin Klein founded his American fashion line in 1968. The Calvin Klein brand is best known for its clean and classic style. The brand is also known as a pioneer in designer jeans; Klein was the first designer to add his name to the back pocket of his jeans.
Although Calvin Klein’s designs have been on the forefront of the wholesome, all-American look since inception, the brand’s print and media ads have been known to cause some controversy. In 1979, for example, there was uproar when a very young Brooke Shields became the face of Klein’s jeans campaign under the slogan, “You know what comes between me and my Calvins? Nothing.”
The company’s first fragrance, a men’s cologne named “Calvin,” was introduced in 1981. The mixture of lavender, amber and wood was thought to create the perfect masculine scent. The next scent was released in 1985—it was a perfume for women named Obsession by Calvin Klein, which was followed by a Men’s variation of Obsession in 1986. Klein has since released many notable fragrances, but one of the most notable was the unisex fragrance, CK One by Calvin Klein.
If you’re looking for great deals on Calvin Klein fragrances such as Eternity or Contradiction, Lily Direct is definitely the place to go. We have a wide range of discount colognes and perfumes, so you’re sure to find just what you’re looking for at prices you’ll love!
